MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club edged past Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club, Verna 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of the Varca Panchayat Cup football tournament, organized by Varca Sports Club, on Thursday.
There was no score at half time.
Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club started attackingly with good short passes that kept the rival defenders on their toes.
As the match progressed, Monty Valadares gave Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club the lead in the 49th minute with a curling effort which gave no chance for the rival custodian.
Crossing over, Rossman Cruz Nagoa Sports Club started in the right earnest and equalized through Santana Rego’s clinical finish off an assist by Ajoy Sartoker in the 65th minute.
The teams tried hard to score the match-winner but failed.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Sao Jose de Areal SC scored through Aggio Antao, Silvestre Carvalho, David Colaco and Francis Baretto while Rossman Cruz Nagoa SC converted through Savio Fernandes, Rosario Braganza and Noel D’Silva. Francis Baretto of Sao Jose de Areal was adjudged Man-of-the-Match.
