MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa drubbed Dunes SC 5-1 in GFA’s Taca Goa Under-20 match at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday.
Sporting made their intentions clear right in the very first minute as Sunny Parab hoodwinked Dunes’ right back, moved into the penalty box and scored with a stiff grounder.
Dunes squandered a glorious chance to level terms when Joshua Fernandes dribbled past a Sporting defender but his placement missed to beat the rival goalkeeper.
As the match progressed, Sporting dictated terms and Jonas Colaco’s and Richie Vaz’s strikes were saved by Dunes custodian Laximan Shetgaonkar. However, in the 18th minute, Sunny Parab netted his second goal.
Dunes took the fight to the other end and Chandrakant Gadekar squared to Sanket Mandrekar, whose shot from closewas brilliantly blocked for a corner by Sporting’s goalkeeper Bhaskar Jalmi.
There was action at the other end. A strike by Sporting’s Richie Vaz was blocked by the Dunes custodian. Richie had another go but this time the shot rebounded back into play off the goalpost.
On crossing over, Sporting’s Jonas, after failing to beat the onrushing Dunes goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation scored in the 52th minute following a fine solo effort.
Sporting pumped in their fourth goal through substitute Diwakar Chodhary following a combined move with Jonas.
Dunes pulled a goal back in the 82th minute following Joshua Fernandes’ neat placement.
Sporting’s hunger for goals did not end as substitute Karl Menzes scored from a goalmouth melee in the added time.
