MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa trounced Panjim Footballers 5-0 in the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium, here, on Saturday.
After Saturday’s win, Sporting take the top spot with 19 points while Panjim Footballers stay on 10 points.
In the Panjim derby, the teams took the field with Panjim Footballers having stunned Salgaocar FA by 1-0 margin, while Sporting Clube de Goa were locked 2-2 against Calangute Association in their last league match.
The Capital side were a mere shadow of themselves with not one good attempt at the rival goal, but at the other end Flaming Oranje pumped in three goals through U-20 Rohit Totad (18′) and Akeraj Martin’s (40′ 46′) minute) before going out in the dug-out. Philp Odogwu and Gaurav Kankonkar added their names on crossing ends.
Sporting opened their account in the18th minute where a long free-kick by Myron Fernandes at the far end saw Marcus Mascarenhas lob the ball to a well positioned U-20 Rohit Totad who nodded the ball into the goal to give his side the lead.
After almost twenty minutes of midfield tussle Sporting hammered in two more goals through Akeraj Martins, with Philip Odogwu seated on the substitution bench.
An intelligent ball by Gautam Dias was brilliantly finished by Akeraj Martins with a back heel for the second goal.
Gourav Kankonkar almost netted the third goal off a free-kick, but Panjim keeper Sherwin Da Cunha who made his debut brought a smart save by tipping the ball over the cross bar.
However, no one could stop Flaming Oranje from netting in the third goal when in the 46th minute Marcus set up Akeraj inside the penalty box, who superbly curled the ball into the far top corner of the goal to make it 3-0.
Just five minutes into the second session and substitute Philip Odogwu accounted for the fourth goal as he headed the ball into the goal off a cross by wing back Myron Fernandes to make it 4 -0.
Sporting hammered in the fifth goal through Gaurav Kankonkar who scored from a goal mouth melee off a corner by Myron to make it 5 -0.
