PANJIM: Hosts St Anne High School, Tivim thrashed Our Lady of Grace High School, Bicholim 5-0 in the final to emerge champions in the Annite football tournament organized to mark the inauguration of the St Anne HS ground, recently.
Sunil Desai of St Anne HS, Tivim was awarded the Best Player trophy while Alden Sequeira of Sacred Heart of Jesus HS, Anjuna was awarded the Best Promising Player of the tournament.
Chief guest Fr Avinash Rodrigues (assistant parish priest of Revora church) gave away the certificates and trophies to the students.
Fr Avinash congratulated and appreciated the young students who participated in the tournament. The league-cum-knock out tournament was conducted under the guidance of co-ordinator Merwyn Pereira and other staff members of St Anne HS.
The event was inaugurated by Robert Colaco, football lover from Tivim.
Seven teams took part namely Our Lady of Grace High School, Bicholim; Assagao Union High School, Assagao; Holy Cross High School, Bastora; St Britto High School, Mapusa; St Clara High School, Assanora; Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, Anjuna and host St Anne High School, Tivim.
The Headmistress Sr Joysee was overjoyed with the win and congratulated the players and thanked everyone for their support and co-operation in making the tournament a success.
The other dignitaries included Sr Alice Coutinho (manager of St Anne HS), Milan Naik (Panch of Danva-Tivim), B Kattikar (PTA chairperson), Simon Borges (JE Tivim sub-station) and others.
