GOA VELHA: St Anthony Sports Club, Colva scored a fluent 2-1 win over Saligao United in the 12th London Trophy, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha ground, on Sunday.
Both the team started on equal footings wherein the play was restricted to midfield battle. There was hardly any action in the match before St Anthony SC took a surprise lead in the 35th minute through Keith.
St Anthony’s SC Colva Francis Pauskar won the ball from struggling Saligao defence and laid it to Keith, who fired a low shot from outside the box, which easily beat the rival keeper Clyde Vales.
St Anthony’s SC led 1-0 at the breather.
Crossing over, Saligao United tried their best to get into the game.
The desperation almost turned fruitful when Paulo Joao’s long range effort hit the cross bar and went out of play.
Just when Saligao were finding their rhythm upfront they suffered another setback when their keeper Clyde failed to stop Keith’s long range effort in the 49th minute which doubled the lead.
Saligao United managed to pull one back late into the game through Ashley Fernandes in the 65th minute, but failed to the equaliser.
