St Anthony SC in quarters

RAIA: St Anthony Sports Club Assolda secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 22nd Fr Basilio Andrade memorial football tournament with a spectacular 3-0 victory over Betalbatim Sports Club at Musson ground, Majorda, on Thursday.

In the early moments of the match, both teams faced difficulties in finding opportunities on target, but it was St Anthony SC Assolda that broke through. Cajitan Fernandes made a remarkable move, deftly evading his marker to deliver a precise low cross into the box.

Alreach Peixoto was in the right place at the right time to calmly tap the ball past the goalkeeper, opening the scoring for St Anthony SC.

In the 27th minute, Alreach Peixoto turned provider with an accurate cross for Victorino Fernandes. Although Victorino’s initial attempt was thwarted by the Betalbatim goalkeeper, he made no mistake with the rebound, extending St Anthony SC’s lead to 2-0 at halftime.

The second half witnessed more brilliance from St Anthony SC. Rizbon Fernandes, with a clever feigned shot, outwitted a defender, allowing him to pass the ball to better placed Cajitan Fernandes, who placed the ball confidently into the back of the net, further bolstering Assolda’s lead to 3-0.

As time ran out, Betalbatim SC intensified their efforts to change the course of the game, but St Anthony SC’s goalkeeper, Bacher Fernandes, made some exceptional saves to ensure his team maintained a clean sheet.
