BETALBATIM: St Anthony SC, Assolda grounded Betalbatim SC 2-0 in the final of the Martins Cup All-Goa Football tournament, at Betalbatim ground, on Sunday.
In the first half, Sunny Fernandes gave St Anthony SC the lead with a powerful grounder in the 25th minute.
Thereafter, Cruzner Pereira squandered a golden opportunity to score in the 28th minute for Betalbatim SC.
In the second half, St Antony SC continued in the same rhythm and doubled their advantage through Cruz Gomes in the 45th minute.
MP of UK, Keith Vaz was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of MLA Micky Pacheco, Pascoal Afonso, Fr Milagres Fernandes, Carafina Pereira and other dignitaries.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 and a trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
The following individual prizes were presented to Best forward of the final Best defender: Johnson Fernandes of St Anthony SC, Best goalkeeper: Godwin Fernandes of Betalbatim SC, Man-of-the-Match: Cristo Fernandes of St Anthony, Player of the tournament: Kingslee Fernandes of Betalbatim SC, Upcoming player of the tournament: Klusner Pereira of Betalbatim SC.
Club president, Joe Pereira welcomed while Melvin Cota, Joe Cota and Gustavo Afonso introduced the players to the guests. Seby Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
