PANJIM: St Savio Sports Club, Calangute, defeated Pilerne Sports Club 3-0 in 23rd Vagator Soccer 2023 at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club ground, Tuesday.
St Savio opened the account in the 5th minute. A floater from Jovito Fernandes found Richard Cardoz in the 18-yard box but the last named was brought down by an opponent and a spot kick awarded which was converted by Pedro Gonsalves. Within two minutes, Calangute doubled their lead. A 25-yard shot from Jovito Fernandes defelcted off the goalkeeper, but the rebound fell to Fasell D’Souza who netted it in.
Pilerne dominated after the break but they failed to capitalize on their opportunities in the 39th and 41st minutes. Aniket Naik’s freekick and later a shot from Aman Govekar was saved by Calangute goalkeeper Cydon D’Souza.
Runaal Shirodkar of St Savio was shown the red card for a reckless tackle.
Jovito of St Savio made it 3-0 with a neat placement.
