PANJIM: St Savio Sports Club, Calangute pipped St Cruz Club of Cavelossim 5-4 via-the tie-breaker in 7th London Trophy football organized by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha ground, Tuesday. The teams were locked goalless at full time.
Cavelossim started attackingly and could have surged ahead but Haston Dias’ powerful long ranger sailed inches wide.
Subsequently, Cavelossim Valerio’s powerful header was blocked by St Savio goalkeeper Rolex.
At the other end, St Savio were building up momentum and their best chance came midway when Elber set up Blake inside the danger zone but the latter’s shot was saved by Cavelossim goalkeeper Clifton.
After resumption, Cavelossim began with a flurry of attacks but Preston was unlucky on two occasions. First, the last named failed to head in a close ranger and then he ballooned over with only the rival custodian at his mercy.
In the dying minutes, St Savio squandered a golden opportunity to score the match-winner after Francis did the spadework and set up Collin, who however, shot wide from hand-shaking distance.
