PANJIM: St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa defeated Parra Choco Boys 4-1 in final to emerge champions in the North Zonal Young Eagles Hunt Championship held at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday.
In the first semi-final, St Xavier’s HSS edged past United Boys, Panjim 3-2 via tie-breaker while in the second semis Parra Choco got the better of Dhempo Higher Secondary School 3-2.
The 7v7 football Under-18 tournament witnessed higher secondary schools, registered clubs, open teams and even high schools players competed.
The Dempo Sports Club initiative Young Eagles Hunt Championship received a great turnout as 21 teams with over 210 players participated in the tournament.
Many young players impressed the Dempo SC technical team with their skills, technique and on field attitude and have been shortlisted for the closed camp to be held later in the year.
“It was a very productive exercise. All the games were exciting but there had to be only one winners and St Xavier’s were the worthy team,” said Dempo Sports Club Youth Development Technical Director Katz Naidoo.
“There were very good talents available today and it is upto us to mould them to be even better players and be the part of Dempo SC,” added Naidoo.
St Xavier’s HSS, Parra Choco Boys, Dempo HSS and United Boys, Panjim have qualified for the State finals.
The club will conduct their third and final zonal at Fatorda artificial turf on January 27 and this could be the last opportunity for the young players to be the part of The Golden Eagles.
