MAPUSA: Goals from Budhi Bhadar, Zouthan Sanga and Roshan Singh helped Corps of Signals overcome newly promoted Goa Police Sports Club 3-0 in GFA’s First Division at Sangolda ground, Tuesday. Signals led 1-0 at the interval.
Piedade Colaco and Rupesh Morje were booked for Goa Police, while Lalrem Ruata was the only Signals player cautioned.
Signals striker Buchi Singh was the star performer as he created two assists which led to the first two goals for his side. The high fitness levels, communication and understanding between the players gave Signals the advantage.
It was Goa Police who started the brightest, with Punaji Kalangkutkar having two chances, but both did not trouble Siganls as they were wide off the target.
At the other end, Goa Police captain Paresh Morge led by example with a last ditch tackle to save his side after Buchi menacingly crafted his way around the goalkeeper only to be denied. From the resulting corner Paresh again cleared the ball away.
On the stroke of half time, Signals caught Goa Police on the counter-attack and broke forward with sweeping passes. Buchi played a delightful ball out to the left flank, where it was met by Budhi. Budhi ignored shouts from his team mates to send it into the danger zone, but instead cut in and let fly a sniper which exploded noisily against the post on its way into the back of the net.
Two minutes after the restart, Goa Police found themselves in trouble again, when Vikas Kale fed the ball to Buchi and he sent Zouthan Singh racing through on goal with a defence splitting pass and Zoutham provided a finish of exquisite class to double the lead for Signals.
By this time, Goa Police realised they had to tighten up in central midfield and made changes as Amir Salgaonkar replaced Sudesh Naik and within 12 minutes Rohidas Mhaloji came on for Mahendra Homkhande.
In the closing five minutes Zouthan had two more opportunities to add to the scoreline. The first hit the side netting, while the second attempt was saved at point blank range by Goa Police custodian Rupesh Kamat.
In the final minute, Roshan Singh danced his way into the box and played a fabulous wall pass with T C Lalmapzwava, before finishing of what he started with a clinical strike.
Signals collected 3 points from two matches, while Goa Police are yet to open their account after the same number of games.
