The runners-up, New Zealand national cricket team, also take home a significant payout of $1.6 million (approximately ₹14.65 crore). With the tournament featuring 20 teams, the ICC spreads the total prize pool across a larger group, which keeps the individual stage payouts balanced.
Financial experts say the rising prize money reflects the rapid commercial growth of the T20 format. The gap between the champion and runner-up prize is also meant to raise the stakes of the final.
Financial Rewards for All Participants
Prize money is not limited to the finalists. Teams that reached the semi-finals, including the England cricket team and South Africa national cricket team, received $790,000 each.
Sides that reached the Super 8 stage but did not advance further earned $380,000. This payment structure ensures teams are rewarded fairly for progressing into the middle rounds of the tournament.
Even teams eliminated in the first round receive financial support, with each of the 20 participating nations guaranteed at least $250,000.
The Role of National Board Bonuses
The official ICC prize money is only part of the total reward. National boards often provide additional bonuses after major tournament wins.
For instance, after India’s triumph in 2024, the Board of Control for Cricket in India awarded the squad an extra ₹125 crore bonus.
With the Men in Blue crowned champions again in 2026, a similar reward from the BCCI is widely expected.
