MAPUSA: Tuff Boys of Bardez emerged champions in all-India seven-a-side football tournament, organized by Dubai Goans under the leadership of Nelson Silveira, Vanxim, Divar in Dubai.
In the open category finals, Tuff Boys of Bardez piped Vanxim, Divar by a solitary goal scored by man-of-the-tournament Alvito Miranda.
Tuff Boys put up a creditable performance with a rock-solid defence line and goalkeeping by Domnic D’Souza, which did not concede in the entire tournament.
Tuff Boys’ Bruno Coutinho received the Golden Boot award while Domnic was adjudged best goalkeeper.
A total of 32 teams participated from Kuwait, Sharjha, Abhu Dhabi etc. The first round was conducted in league basis followed by knock-outs.
In the veterans’ category, Tuff Veterans emerged runners-up after going down to MLA Veterans of Goa on toss after the teams were locked goalless at full-time and neither did the tie-breaker provide any result.
Both, Tuff Boys of Bardez and Tuff Veterans teams have participated for the third consecutive year under the sponsorship of Parra-based businessman Francis Viegas, who is popularly known as Franky.
