UC Benaulim wait for shootout to get the better of Navelim

NAVELIM: United Club of Benaulim SC defeated Navelim Villagers Union 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of the late Jose Bento Furtado Memorial trophy football tournament, played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday.

NAVELIM: United Club of Benaulim SC defeated Navelim Villagers Union 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of the late Jose Bento Furtado Memorial trophy football tournament, played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday.
Stevan Baptista the Benaulim mifielder excelled for his team as he showcased his vision for the game with great passing abilities and blistering runs in the rival area. However, the lad failed to inspire his team in the regulation time as they failed to score despite dominating the play.
In the 5th minute, Stevan sent in a perfect pass to Arif Pathan inside Navelim box but Arif’s shot was denied by the Navelim goalpost.
Minutes later, Stevan connected a well measured ball to Laxmikant Kurade of Benaulim but the rival cross bar denied his effort. 
Navelim missed a great chance when Fr Americo Rodrigues saw his effort sail over the bar in the 12th minute.
As the match progressed, Aulon Gomes and Suraj Naik missed sitters in the 20th and 30th minutes respectively for Navelim.
There was no score at the end of regulation time.
In the resultant tiebreaker, United Club of Benaulim netted through Osbourn Fernandes, Rizwan Ratos, Sydroy Baptista, Rody Fernandes and Arif Pathan and for Navelim Villagers Union Anil Shivolkar, Aulon Gomes, Suraj Naik and Joseph Gomes scored.
