CUNCOLIM: United Club of Palolem Canacona got the better of St Rock Youth Club Majorda 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Mc Dowells’ No 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament for South Goa, organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School ground, Cuncolim on Friday.
The highlight of the day was a brilliant brace by Savlon Cardozo while Chaitan Komarpant and Tristan Falcao also got on to the score sheet.
At the other hand St Rock’s Youth Club were struggling to grasp the game and were restricted in their own half.
Chaitan Komarpant broke the deadlock in the 6th minute when he picked up a through pass from Sclachie Cardozo and the former ran through Majorda defenders and rounded off the rival goalkeeper with snap shot .
Thereafter United Club of Palolem dominated the proceeding rest of the first half. Spurred by the lead, Palolem upped the ante and increased their tally in the 29th minute when Savlon Cardozo cleverly shot pastthe rival defenders and beat the keeper with neat finish after receiving a through pass from Chaitan Komparpant cross.
After taking the 2-0 cushion, Palolem inflated their tally in the 31st minute when Savlon Cardozo ran down the rival penalty box and unleashed a stiff shot which crashed into the net keeping the Majorda dazed to register his brace.
United Club of Palolem led 3-0 at the breather.
The second half turned out to be a pale complexion of the first half as neither team created clear goal scoring opportunities in the initial period of the second half.
St Rock’s Youth Sports Club kept nibbling away and reduced the margin in the 50th minute when Flyod Fernandes’ teasing volley beat the Palolem keeper.
Unfazed, Palolem went into attacking mode when Tristan Falcao’s stiff shot eluded the rival goalkeeper off Chaitan Komarpant in the 69th minute to make it 4-1
