PANJIM: Unbeaten IM Ritviz Parab secured 8.5 points from 9 rounds to win the 3rd edition of Durga Motors Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024 organised by Rotary Club of Porvorim under the aegis of Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association, Goa Chess Association and All India Chess Federation at the Dr K B Hedgewar High School, Cujira-Bambolim, recently.
Ritviz was also the winner of the 2nd Edition Durga Motors tournament. IM Nitish Belurkar and Mandar Lad scored 8 points each but due to better tie-break Nitish Stood second, while Mandar had to settle for the third place.
Prize winners from 4th to 15th are Devesh Naik, Arvinda B R, Aarth Karapurkar, Shriraj Bhosale, Mani Bharathy, Abhishek Patil, Chaitanya Gaonkar, WCM Gunjal Chopdekar, Bezstrakhov Dmitry, Saeeja Gunesh Dessai, Mayuresh Laxlabh Desai and Parab Rishikesh.
Category prize winners in U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 boys & girls: Prayank Gaonkar, Naik Aarav, Narayan alias Aarav A Prabhu Dessai, Vihaan Tari, Sarthak Naik, Aryan Naik, Shirodker Arthav, Atharv Ghatwal, Aaryavrat Rasiket Naik Desai, Chopdekar Aarav, Pagi Sarvang, Kshitij Naik Gaonkar, Sushrut Mandar Nanal, Trivikram J, Sarthak Surendra Kavlekar, Ghadi Shreesha, Dacunha Sidonia, Redkar Shanvi, Terse Asmi, Kaya Renee Coutinho, Shah Mishka, Rachel Pereira, Vaishnavi Vijay Parab, Shrama Morudkar, Shriya Patil, Aditi Atul Kamat and Avni Atul Kamat. Veteran above 55: Srinivas Lokoju and Elias Barreto.
Chief guest Ashok Sapra (sponsor and owner of Durga Motors) distributed the prizes in the presence of Wilson Cruz, Sudhakar Patgar, Rajesh Mehrotra, Umesh Naik (tournament director), Chief Arbiter Arvind Mhamal, Dr Pramod Dubale, Archan Sawant, Tukaram Shetye and other dignitaries.
A total cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh and trophies were distributed.
