RAIA: Union of Chinchinim Villagers defeated SCC Loutolim, 5-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2nd Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup 2024, organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers and played at the Chinchinim Church ground, on Tuesday.
Union of Chinchinim Villagers (UCV) launched their attack right from the first minute, with Senoy Olivero’s header narrowly missing the goal from a corner by Clarison Fernandes. UCV maintained possession with two-touch football, and in the 13th minute, Rohan dribbled past the Loutolim defense, only to be stopped by a save from the goalkeeper.
Loutolim regrouped, with Aniston D’Silva missing a close shot. In the 25th minute, Rohan of UCV missed another chance with only the goalkeeper to beat. Loutolim then took control, and in the 30th minute, Velroy Fernandes scored from the top of the penalty area off a rebound, putting SCC Loutolim ahead, 1-0.
At half time the score was 1-0 in favour of UCV.
In the second half, UCV came in with a strategy. Frankey Olivero equalised in the 6th minute with a neat placement. Senoy quickly scored two goals, making it 3-1 for UCV. Clarison added to the score in the 25th minute, making it 4-1. Senoy completed his hat trick in the 26th minute. Amston D’Silva reduced the margin for Loutolim in the 28th minute, bringing the final score to 5-2.
Velroy Fernandes of SCC Loutolim was awarded the man-of-the-match presented by Colin Pereira, Chinchinim-Deussua Village Panchayat panch member.
