MARGAO: United Boys of Palolem edged past Cuncolim Union 2-1 to cruise into the semi-final of all-Goa Our Lady of Merces inter-village football tournament organized by Sirlim Sports Club, at church ground, Chinchinim, on Friday. United Boys of Palolem led 1-0 at the break.
Palolem’s opening goal came in the 20th minute when striker Ciano Lobo launched quick counter-attack which saw Terence Lobo set up Ciano Lobo in front of goal to give the finishing touches with a stiff grounder.
Spurred by the success, Palolem intensified their attacks and fired a couple of pot shots .
Crossing over, Cuncolim Union equalized Krishna Shirodkar’s stiff grounder.
Stunned by the equalizer, United Boys of Palolem went all out and Anjulo Fernandes goal kick eluded Cuncolim Union goalkeeper Adney Fernandes hands down to troop out worthy winners.
