MAPUSA: UZO managed to edge past Saipem SC 2-1 to enter the semi-final of the Friends Circle Soccer Cup, at Dr. Gustavo ground, Candolim, on Tuesday.
In the 4th minute, Saipem’s Albern Cardozo saw his strike hit the crossbar, while in the 15th minute UZO’s Trevor Antao’s fierce strike sailed over the crossbar.
However, Trevor Antao made up for his earlier lapse and directed his header into the goal off a cross from Francis Fernandes to take the lead.
Saipem almost levelled terms in the 36th minute but UZO’s defender Shanker Palyenkar brought a goal-line clearance off a try from Paul Cardozo.
In the very next minute, Trevor netted his brace as his power-packed right footer hit the back of Saipem’s nets to make it 2-0.
Saipem did get back into the match with Rohan Morajkar scoring off a cross from Albern Cardozo perfect cross to make it 2-1.
