BENAULIM: Varca Sports Club thrashed Ambelim Sports Club 6-0 to storm into the quarter-finals of the 33rd Strikers Trophy Football Tournament organised by Young Strikers Benaulim, at St. John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Friday.
After a change of ends, Varca SC took the lead in the 45th minute through striker Clavis Gonsalves who scored off Dylan Lima’s pass and shot past the Ambelim goalkeeper Marial Pereira.
Varca doubled the lead in the 52 minute when winger Joylon Cardozo received a pass from Elvis Fernandes who struck a right footer past the goalkeeper. Ambelim never recovered from the quick jolts and Joylon Cardozo soon recorded his hat-trick by firing past the helpless Ambelim goalkeeper Mariel Pereira. Clavis Gonsalves got his brace to complete the rout.
