RAIA: Varca Veterans triumphed in a thrilling 6-3 victory over Vasco Veterans after a tense tie-breaker, advancing in the Pogo Boys Veterans football tournament, held at Merces Church ground, on Wednesday.
Vasco Veterans took an early lead in the first half when Nelson headed in a goal from a long kick by Sheikh, putting them up 1-0 at halftime. Despite several attacking moves, Varca struggled to score, while Vasco had chances to widen their lead, including hitting the post twice, but they couldn’t capitalise.
In the final moments, Romelo of Varca delivered a precise goal kick, which Pelle expertly converted to equalise at 1-1.
During the tie-breaker, Varca Veterans remained composed, with Jose, Romelo, Pelle, and Charles all successfully converting their penalties. Vasco Veterans faltered, with only Sheikh and Nelson finding the net, leading to Varca’s 4-2 victory in the shootout.
