CANDOLIM: Varca Veterans got the better of Santana Veterans 3-1 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of Calangute Veterans Football Tournament organised by Candolim Veterans at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Candolim ground on Sunday.
Krishna Shirodkar of Varca Veterans was at his best with his powerpacked shots, while Prakash Chari of Santana Veterans excelled with his dribbling and number of assists.
In the second minute itself Varca Veterans could have scored through Krishna Shirodkar but the latter’s shot was acrobatically saved by Santana Veterans’ keeper.
In the second half Prakash Chari of Santana Veterans took a powerful shot but it was cleared to safety by a Varca defender in the 48th minute.
In the tie-breaker, Varca Veterans netted through Remus, Charles and Krishna and for Santana Veterans the lone goal was scored by Prakash.
Varca Veterans will meet the winners of Joe Cookies Loutolim veterans and Candolim veterans in the quarter-final on March 31.
