MAPUSA:  Vasco Sports Club eased past Corps of Signals 3-1 in the GFA Pro League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Wednesday.
The winners led 2-0 at half-time with Rovan Pereira and Okoroge Praise scoring a goal each.
Vasco now have six points from four matches while Signals are still on three points from five matches.
The Port Town side clearly had the better share of ball possession, keeping their rivals pinned in their own backyard for major part of the duel.
After some close shaves at the Signals’ goal, Vasco managed to take the lead in the 23rd minute when Princeton Rebello curled his corner towards Roval Pereira, who drove home the ball through a powerful right footed shot, 1-0.
Minutes into the match, Signals custodian Niyas Mon effected a brilliant save to deny Jaison Vaz from further inflating the lead.
Kingslee came teasingly close to scoring, however his low shot off Nigerian Okorogr Praise’s pass missed the Signals target by a whisker.
With the constant pressure piled on by Vasco, they inevitably netted in their second goal of the match, when in the 33rd minute Okorogr Praise and Kinglee came up with a well built move and after making their way past the defender, the Nigerian drilled the ball into the far corner of the Signals nets, 2-0.
The only fair chance that the Corps side had at scoring was two minutes later, however Shubert Pereira made a mess of things and ballooned the ball wide from close range having only keeper Shilton Fernandes to beat.
On resumption of play, Signals keeper once again came with a fine save to thwart Okorogr Praise from scoring his brace.
In the next minute itself Signals managed to pull a goal back when Th Roshan Singh managed to hoodwink the Vasco defenders and slotted the ball into the nets, 1-2.
However their joy was short-lived as a minute later Vasco further pumped in a goal through Jaison Vaz who scored through a placement, 3-1.
Moments before the full time whistle Vasco came close to netting in their fourth, however Signals defender Raj Singh came with a timely goal line clearance to deny Floyd Fernandes from adding his name to the scorers list.
