MARGAO: Vaz Caterers, Shiroda defeated JK Caterers, Maina 7-6 via the tie-breaker to advance into the semi-finals of the Maina Boys Caterers football tournament played at Maina Church ground, on Wednesday.
Vaz Caterers’ Vincent and Manuel tormenated the rival defence in the first quarter of the match but squandered many chances.
JK Caterers opened the account in the 27th minute through Ashley’s ground shot off Joel Martins assist.
But the joy was shortlived as Vaz Caterers soon equalised through Manuel’s half volley.
Crossing over, both the teams again scored a goal each. In the 48th minute, Jacinto doubled the score for JK Caterers with a deft placement shot while Vaz Caterers equalized 2-2 in the 50th minute through Agnelo’s ground shot.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Vaz Caterers were on target through Vincent, Agnelo, Cliff, Manuel, Ashley while JK Caterers netted with the efforts of Jaison, Joel, James and Charlu.
Vaz Caterers will meet Royal Caterers, Curtorim in the semi-final on March 7.
