Verna Sports Club were leading 2-0 in the first half.
Verna dominated the proceedings with their strikers raiding the rival territory with ease. They took lead in the 32nd minute through Ajay Satorkar off an assist by Wilson Fernandes. Soon, Verna doubled the score when Ajay provided a cross to Savio Fernandes, who in return with his rasping shot netted in.
Post resumption, Calangute Association regrouped with renewed ideas and started attacking the rival citadel. In the 36th minute, they came close in scoring the goal but Blake Haldankar’s header missed the nylons off a cross sent by teammate George D’Souza.
Verna Sports Club increased the tally in the 37th minute. Francisco Fernandes’s shot hit the crosspiece and the ball rebound back into play which Francisco again collected and slammed into the net of Calangute Association.
Thereafter, Verna Sports Club protected their goal with the defenders and midfielders working in tandem. They thwarted all the moves of Calangute Association strikers.
