PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa striker Vitorino Fernandes will lead the Goa State team at the 72nd National Football Championship Santosh Trophy. The other players in the squad include Mathew Gonsalves, Ozen Silva, Melroy Fernandes, Agnelo Gomes, Nickson Catanha, Shallum Pires, Peter Carvalho, Jessel Carneiro, Mackroy Peixoto, Kingslee Fernandes, Nestor Dias, Kapil Hoble, Beevan D’ Mello, Velito D’Cruz, Joaquim Carvalho, Clinton Niasso, Marcus Mascarenhas, Clive Miranda and Joaquim Abranches.
Former India coach and Dempo coach Armando Colaco is the head coach, Mateus Costa is the Assistant Coach and Richard Sanches is the goalkeeping coach of the team. Schubert Furtado is the Manager.
The team had prayer service at Margao on Friday evening which was attended by General Secretary Welvin Menezes and Vice President South. The team will leave for Ahmadabad on January 6, 2018 from Margao
GFA President Elvis Gomes wished the team for their zonals campaign and said, “This is one of the most formidable squads in recent times, as we have appointed one of the most experienced coaches Armando Colaco. He will be assisted by Mateus Costa. We expect that the team will emerge winners in the zonals.”
Goa is scheduled to play their first match against Rajasthan on January 10 and on January 12 against Gujarat.
