Yash, Anjana triumph

PANJIM: Yash Kunkoliekar and Anjana Kumari walked away with the boys and girls under-17 singles titles respectively in the late Manohar Dhond memorial All Goa Major Ranking badminton tournament organised in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association (GBA) and SAG at indoor stadium, Campal-Panjim, on Sunday.

In the boys singles final, Yash Kunkoliekar outplayed Aashrun Gautam 21-16, 21-16 while Anjana Kumari defeated Anar Singbal 21-13, 21-16 in the girls singles summit clash.
Mehul Jirage won the under-15 boys singles title while Manjushree Raut emerged champion in the girls singles event.  
In the finals, Mehul beat Curt Coutinho 25-23, 17-21, 21-19 while Manjushree outsmarted Yasmin Sayed 21-9, 21-6.
In the under-13 boys and girls singles finals, Soham Khandeparkar outplayed Tejas Tendulkar 21-16, 21-8 to claim the top honour while Lydia Barretto defeated Arshia Gautam 21-12, 21-3 to emerge champ.
Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Director V.M. Prabhudesai was the chief guest. GBA members Oscar Silveira and Laxmikant Kenaudikar graced the occasion. 
The championship was conducted by NIS coaches Roy Athaide and Vinayak Kamat. 
Earlier, Gaurish Dhond, vice president, Goa Badminton Association welcomed while coordinator Sandeep Heble later propose a vote of thanks. Pradosh Silimkhan compered.
