MAPUSA: Young Boys of Aradi struggled before squeezing past YCO Orda 2-1 in the Silver Sands Candolim Inter-Ward football tournament, organised by United Boys of Camotim, played at Candolim ground, on Friday.
In the early fifth minute of play Aradi shot ahead when Cajie Colaco curled in his corner towards Sudhir Gawas who scored through a firm placement, 1-0.
Hardly had the cheers died down, Aradi doubled their score through M D’Souza who gave finishing touches to Manjunath Gherde’s cross, 2-0.
Down by two goals, Orda regrouped quickly and played possession play to settle into the game.
Orda managed to reduce the margin in the 20th minute of play when Lyris well executed freekick gave no chance to the diving Aradi keeper, 2-1.
The goal boosted their spitits and increased the tempo of the game, but the half time whistle spared the opponents. Changing ends Orda had a chance to level the score, however Pritesh’s freekick was kept at bay neatly by Aradi custodian Chandan Redkar.
