MARGAO: Young Humorist Club defeated BITS Pilani 2-1, in the Mormugao Zone GFA Second Division League at TB Cunha Sports Complex, Cansaulim on Wednesday. Young Humorist Club led 1-0 at half time.
Humorists held the upper hand in the opening session with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure.
Humorists’ breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Ryan Gama punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish.
BITS Pilani tried their best to neutralized the lead but failed to get past the rival’s strong defence.
Changing over, BITS Pilani showed better application and urgency and their forwards troubled the rival defence with orchestrated raids but could not penetrate the strong defence.
Humorist doubled the lead in the 77th minute when Pritesh Mayenkar hoodwinked a couple of defenders and placed the ball into the far corner of the net.
Stung by the double blows, BITS Pilani went all out and succeeded in scoring a consolation goal in the 82nd minute when Vikas Bhat beat the rival goalkeeper with stiff shot.
BITS Pilani however could not build on their goal as their efforts were thwarted repeatedly by rival’s organised defending and neat tackles.
