Over 30 Dead at Vijay’s Karur Rally; PM Modi, CM Stalin React

A political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, presided over by TVK chief Vijay, turned tragic on Saturday as a stampede claimed the lives of over 30 people, including several children, and left around 70 injured. Vijay was forced to abruptly end his speech as panic spread and people fainted in the crowd.

Over 30 people, including children, were killed and around 70 others injured in a stampede at a rally led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay in Tamil Nadu’s Karur on Saturday. The actor-turned-politician was forced to abruptly end his speech as chaos broke out and people began collapsing.

Chief Minister MK Stalin said he has taken note of the tragedy and will visit Karur to assess the situation. He directed officials to ensure immediate treatment for the injured. “The news from Karur is worrying. I have asked for swift medical care for those admitted after the stampede,” Stalin posted on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X wrote:
“The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured.”
