PANJIM: The capital city is poised to get 24×7 water supply with SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system as eight components/works have been approved by the Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL).
According to information available, the administrative approval and expenditure sanction has been granted for the eight components out of 13 components. All these works will be executed by the Public Works Department (PWD) Division III.

The works include replacement of 3.3 KV motor, and control panels, supplying and installing of pumps, supplying and installing of three modular sub-stations, replacement of centrifugal pumps, vertical pumps, retro-filling of two vertical turbine pumps, replacement of search control valves, implementation of digitisation project and implementation of Smart water supply system to stop non revenue water (NRW).
Of the three modular sub-stations, two will be set up at the Opa Water Treatment Plant for the dedicated pipeline supplying water to the Panjim city and one modular sub-station will be put up at Altinho.
The other five components including construction of a 2000 litre sump and 650 litres overhead reservoir, both proposed at Altinho is under tendering process.
The total estimated cost of the 13 components is Rs 77.37 crore.
In Goa, the water requirement per capita demand is 150 litres per capita per day (LPCD) in urban areas with seweraged houses and 140 litres per capita per day without sewerage lines and it is 70 litres per day per person in rural areas.
However, the PWD (water supply section) has observed that consumers are using more water and the excess is used for gardening, washing vehicles and their premises.
According to PWD sources, 24×7 water supply is not round-the-clock water but a provision for consumers to store water in sumps in their houses.
