“The woman, aged 65 years has been living alone. She was traumatised after what happened to her. Nevertheless soon after a complaint was filed, we registered an FIR and arrested the accused,” an official said.

The accused, a coconut plucker, used the pretext of dropping the woman to her home after both had visited a coconut plantation belonging to her daughter. A few kilometres from the coconut plantation, the accused took a different route and went into the jungle where he allegedly raped her.

One of the villagers informed the survivor’s daughter living abroad about the incident after which the daughter lodged the complaint.

The accused was picked from Quepem where he was hiding and was arrested for rape among other relevant sections of IPC.
