MARGAO: Reacting to the Herald report “Madel Fish Market faces biohazard bomb, a group of Fatorda residents let by Sanjeev Raiturkar, Ethel Lobo and Nelson Fernandes submitted a memorandum to the office of the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary to shift the whole sale fish market out of Fatorda to an industrial estate.
Claiming that the SGPDA owned fish market is operated by a mafia who are controlling the quality and quantity of fish, the citizens claimed that hygiene of the market is neglected. “The market is in violation of several laws from water pollution, health and even CRZ,” the memorandum states.
The residents objected to the Rs 13 crore up gradation of the market claiming that the wholesale market is a small scale industry wherein the power requirement for the proposed cold storage and other activities will not be met at the current site.
They demanded that fish meal plants be banned permanently and that import and export of fish in Goa be banned completely so that Goans get good quality fish at affordable prices.
