BICHOLIM: Taking serious note of the report published in Herald about the residents of Maulingtad in Sanquelim fearing flooding due to breach of mining pits, the Bicholim Mamlatdar has ordered an inspection of the site on August 6.
Herald reported that the residents and the councilor of Sanquelim Municipal Council, Dayanand Boryekar as claiming that water from the mining pits was seeping into their houses during heavy rainfall and that they feared breach of flooded mining pits.
After Herald published the report, Boryekar once again wrote a letter to the authorities demanding immediate action in the matter.
Boryekar told Herald that the Bicholim mamlatdar has issued notice to the stakeholders and would carry out inspection on August 6. “The mamlatdar will inspect the area along with other officials including the police. We hope that something fruitful comes out it,” Boryekar said.
The locals say that sometimes the flow of water is heavy that it becomes even difficult to sit on the floor in the house. The pits have gone very deep that the residents are just waiting for a tragedy to happen.
