MARGAO: The residents of Dongorim ward have written to the Navelim Sarpanch and MLA Luizinho Faleiro to shift the Rosary Church feast fair out of their ward.
The fair was held in an open ground belonging to Francisco Luis Gomes Trust.
In their letter, the villagers stated that there is congestion at the fair due to the stalls that even the roads leading to their homes, school convent, old age home etc are encroached upon causing great hardships to them.
They stated that the fair has no provision for toilets due to which the stall workers defecate and bathe openly in the River Sal tributary thereby causing an embarrassment to the women and children. They stated that unknown people, who descend on their village on the pretext of the fair indulge in robberies and thus pose a threat to their life and property.
Panchayat sources say they will not issue any permission to stalls in Dongorim without the NOC from the owners of the ground. A trustee of Francis Luis Gomes Trust also informed that they will not issue the NOC to the contractor of the stalls.
