VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council along with the Public Works Department will act tough from now on against those residential premises which use electric motors to illegally extract more water with additional force in the municipal jurisdiction.
The water supply in the hillocks of municipal areas such as New Vaddem, Headland Sada and other parts is the key issue which needs to have a permanent solution from the authorities. Although, water is essential for survival and for daily consumption, its availability becomes even more important in the densely populated town like Vasco. People living at higher altitude usually face the water supply problem during the winter and summer seasons. People on their own have decided to set up electrical motors to illegally pump more water with extra force so that they can fill and store water as much as they need.
Speaking to this daily, Councillor Yatin Kamurlekar informed that month ago inspection was carried out in some parts of New Vaddem by the PWD officers in which it was found that many houses have set up electrical motors and they are indulged in illegally pumping water via motor.
He also mentioned that as per the information available, the Office of the Assistant Engineer PWD Vasco has issued an order instructing the PWD supervisors and maintenance staff to immediately disconnect booster pumps connected by the consumers in the MMC jurisdiction due to which the standard water supply to other consumers are affected.
Kamurlekar also mentioned that MMC will act tough on such people who indulge in such practice of setting up booster pumps and get water with extra force.
