The dark clouds hovering over the saffron party simply refuse to go away with an ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate against the former IPL chief Lalit Modi and his associates revealing that a firm owned by Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s son, Dushyant Singh, a BJP MP, had received Rs11.63 crore from Modi.
Both Ms Raje and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj have already got much stick over their alleged involvement in helping Modi get his travel papers. Telecom Minister Ravishankar Prasad’s remarks that it was just a case of compassionate intervention for a humanitarian cause does not hold well. It is unfortunate that the BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have resorted to damage control instead of taking action against both Ms Swaraj and Ms Raje. Hauling up Lalit Modi is just what the doctor ordered but not enough for the BJP to save its face.
