Let’s assume two different scenarios. First, where we are woken up to the horror finding our house being burgled, thieves stand right in front of us. In such a situation, we watch and go back to sleep wondering why should we worry? Moreover, we know them by ranks and faces and yet allow them to loot and plunder all that we had? In the later scenario, assume our house being looted by dacoits, we shout at the top of our voices and yet no help arrives, we keep screaming.
In both the above scenarios, we are awake and watching. In the later scenario, we scream and yet no one dares to intervene or help. We are all passing through this second scenario alike in Goa. We are sitting ducks and letting Goa be looted by the few influential and powerful, our cries are not heard. Our sentiments are not respected. Like the recent statement of the CM published on Herald, he dares not to touch the Leading Hotels as he has received money for conversion. Under what regulations and rules was conversion granted? Can the CM explain to us?
The combination of the politician-police nexus also helping the Leading Hotels or else how come in a civilized society bouncers are allowed, accepted by law enforcing agencies? Why were these bouncers not taken into custody? Is that a parallel law enforcing force of Goa? Everything is happening under the watchful eye of CM Parsekar and his other comrades.
Our house is our own Goa, raped and looted on every single day and many of us would say “why should I bother?”. We are Goenkars, it is our money, our land and we need to have our say as stake holders and not benefit a few privileged beneficiaries of the ruling clan. Let the scenario one from this piece of write-up not be our fate, we have to wake up, move and show our resistance before we are completely looted.
After all, Goans are known to be ‘susegad’ and often cry over spilled milk. Argue, forget and sleep back. This attitude of ours is highly considered by the Leading Hotels and taken us for granted. Goans wouldn’t mind to certify criminals as dangerous, powerful and influential. And yet close our sight on them and allow their prosperity by destroying Goa. In some cases, we have invited them as developers and surrendered our land and rights. This can now happen at Tiracol when access to the historical Fort will be under the control of leading Hotels if their dream comes true.
We are painfully going through scenario two, during Congress rule and now under BJP. The cases of land grabbing for hotels, marinas and docking of casinos in our congested rivers go unaccounted. We are yet to see the light of the day, the deliverance of justice in many cases. The strong nexus between drug lords, politicians and police is bonded by something stronger than Fevicol. Common man’s issues of concern are put in the cold storage. In many cases, criminals live in posh houses, moves in flamboyant cars with tinted glasses, afraid of the sunlight and transparency that could blind them?
It is high time that we guard our house – Our Goa, from further destruction. Let the CM show his spine and acknowledge that people’s wishes put together are supreme. The people are no foolish neither susegad, do not test the might of the people. The people’s movements are coming on the streets, it could reach atop the Porvorim Plateau echoing the voices where the CM may have to take a retreat.
