MARGAO: The law enforcing agencies have once again foiled an attempt to smuggle liquor from the Margao railway station.
The Konkan Railway police on Saturday seized liquor bottles stacked in bags at the Margao railway station. The consignment was in the process of being loading in the Oka express and was to be delivered at Mumbai.
Konkan Railway PSI Sawant said the police have seized liquor worth Rs 15,000 and have arrested one Pradeep Pandey in connection with the seizure.
PSI Sawant said a team of Konkan railway police questioned the accused at the station when he was found carrying the bags containing 150 bottles of different liquor brands. “The accused could not provide a satisfactory answer and hence was brought to the police station for questioning”, he said, adding that the seized consignment will be handed over to the Excise for further investigations.
PSI Sawant said the Konkan railway police has intensified patrolling at the station premises following information of smuggling of liquor via the trains. Last week, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) had seized a consignment of liquor when it was in the process of being loaded inside the train.
