PONDA: Former PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has urged the Chief Minister to increase the FAR for constructions in urbanised village panchayats or villages that are heading towards an urbanised outlook, to curb illegal constructions and also generate much-needed revenue to the panchayats.

Stressing that this would solve a lot of problems, he added that no one is paying much attention to the woes of the panchayats. He also said that taxes for residential houses with increased FAR should be charged at lower rates while commercial constructions with increased FAR could be charged at high rates.
He gave the example of some of the panchayats in Ponda taluka, which he said are already urbanised but that the FAR is still at 0.80 but for Ponda town it is at 2.0.
He added that due to the FAR conditions, a family with four brothers can’t live in an existing plot of one house and are forced to construct additional rooms.
He further added that if the government wants to bring IIT at Farmagudi in Bandora panchayat, then it should provide an increased FAR at 3, so that ground plus three buildings can be constructed there. He added that there is around three lakh sq mtrs of land that can be acquired for IIT and that 2 lakh sq mtrs of government land already exists at Farmagudi.
