CURCHOREM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured the residents of Peddamol, Shirvoi in Quepem that the illegal houses, which were built before February 28, 2014 will be regularised.
However, he said that the ones built after the above date will be demolished. He was addressing the residents during his visit to Peddamol on Tuesday.
The residents of illegal houses built on comunidade land have been demanding that the structures be regularised.
Parrikar informed that the process to regularise the existing houses which were built before 2014 is underway.
“We have received a proposal to regularise the houses, which were built illegally in their own properties and it has been noticed that some of these structures have not paid the required fees of Rs 10,000 and therefore it has been decided to grant them additional time till March 31 to consider their applications,” Parrikar said.
“We will examine how the houses have come up illegally even in their properties and if needed, we will simplify the process to obtain construction licences for them, he said.
He urged the panchayats/gram sabhas to focus more on Swachh Bharat mission rather than raising issues of river nationalisation, Mhadei and coal pollution.
“Discussions through media will not solve the Mhadei issue. It is before the court as final arguments are on and government has given everything required as per law,” he said.
Regarding coal issue, he said that Pollution Control Board has already taken action and criticised those for opposing the river nationalisation issue without studying and knowing the issue properly. “If we take the issue of Goans against coal than we do not have right to use the electricity as 90 percent of power, which we are using, is generated from the plant, which is running on coal,” Parrikar informed.
“The work on Solid Waste Management Plant at Cacora-Curchorem will commence next month,” he informed and added that a similar plant will come up at Verna and Bainguinim.” Parrikar urged the people to focus to keep their surroundings clean as government would now provide toilets to individual houses or community where one has to contribute 5 to 20 percent towards their cost while the remaining cost will be borne by the government.
Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral urged the residents against allowing illegal construction of new houses in their area.
