Que Sera Sera what will be will be! The elections over, the door to door campaigning done and all is quiet now in Goa, with a little grumbling here and there, its time to watch and wait in hope.
In reading the political signs of our time we are inclined to kill hope and give up, because it looks like we have no faith in promises made to us, nothing allows us to see seeds of what in the ashes of the empty promises made of by gone leaders and Governments.
“Leadership is not about the next election, it’s about the next generation there never is a good time for tough decisions. There will always be an election or something else. You have to pick courage and do it. Governance is about taking tough, even unpopular, decisions.”
“May we get a leader, who is strong, and confident, yet humble and intelligent, but not sly. A leader who encourages diversity, one who understands the needs of the farmer, the teacher, the welder, the doctor, and the environmentalist.”
Friends it is not ours to give up. We are given time to build up trust that we will get what we want out of these elections a people’s leader, who will better history, culture and the destiny of our nation. Thanks to all who came out and voted. We do find ourselves with a gigantic task of undoing or rather redoing what has already been done.
If we can anticipate life as a continuous journey over a road sometimes in bad repair we will make the trip far more successful, so also it is in the political arena of life here in our country.
We have suffered and have been disappointed the way things have been with almost everything that touches life and that contributes to successful life as members of the country. So many things we want to see end, the disparity between the rich and poor, the environmental issues the problems of caste and creed and the biggest is corruption.
Much of our life is built on being able to live under a changing sky or within crushing limits of time and so also in times when Governments and leaders have failed to keep up their promises, because as everything, else they also have endings.
The call was “ Your vote Counts” we can see that the things that give courage to face change are the very qualities that last, like, never giving up, having hope for the best times to come and always making our contribution that carry us into the future in spite of the rueful glimpses at the faded people’s dreams
Today as we stand on the verge of the unknown who can tell what we shall find what changes shall come. Hopefully a more concrete political vision a clearer social purposefulness. It is in this context at this moment of a possibility of a new leader new government we are invited to consider anew to take seriously the possibility of change for the good of all. The present moment is delicate handle it with patience you who believe in good governance.
God we ask that you continue to have your hand on this nation, and that you provide leaders with the wisdom to guide us in the right direction. Lord, we pray that they continue to do what is best for all the people in the country, that they continue to provide for the poor and downtrodden, and that they have the patience and discernment to do what is right.
