Fire services attended to at least two tree-falling incidents, where they estimated loss of over one lakh rupees to residents due to pre-monsoon showers. According to Canacona Fire Services, a huge banyan tree came crashing down on the house of Pandurang Gaonkar, at Ziltawadi-Gaondongrim due to torrential rains and high velocity winds. One room of the house broke, causing a loss of over Rs 90,000. Fire Services further stated that their intervention on time saved further loss of upto Rs 1.5 lakhs.
Sources stated, that due to torrential rains, power supply was disrupted, while telecommunication network was also snapped in Gaondongrim village. In another incident, a branch of a jackfruit tree fell on the house of one Paulo Monteiro, causing a loss of Rs 20,000. The intervention of Fire Services helped to save Monteiro from further loss.
Meanwhile, with slight spurt of thundering and lightning, power supply continued to fail, causing inconveniences to the public. In some instances, the electricity department officials reacted only by Wednesday afternoon, when power supply had snapped around 11 pm on Tuesday night, complain residents.
