PANJIM, MARCH 24
More than 150 students from the three engineering colleges affiliated to Goa University, have decided to boycott classes and sit on an indefinite hunger strike outside the varsity from tomorrow (March 25) to call the attention of the Education Minister Babush Monserrate.
These students from Goa Engineering College (GEC), Farmagudi, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna and Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology, Shiroda, are demanding scrapping of an ordinance which impedes their educational prospects.
Around 150 students fear the ordinance would not allow them to go for a fourth attempt at the third year semester exams.  The students are also demanding that blanket ATKT (allowed to keep terms)  be imposed for third-year engineering students. Many of the students said the recent NAAC grading of the university had proved that the varsity had failed to maintain quality of education. They have demanded immediate intervention of the education minister to redress their grievances.
