PANJIM: The villagers of Divar and Sant Estevam islands have requested three more ferry boats and two electric buses on both routes to ease transportation during the 40-day Exposition of the Sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier at Old Goa.

Speaking to mediapersons, Jerry D’Souza of Sao Mathias, said, “Last year, the government had introduced a bus and two additional ferry boats on the Sao Pedro route. The government is spending money to provide better infrastructure to people and therefore it should put additional ferryboats on Old Goa and Sao Pedro routes to alleviate the people’s hardship.”
He said, “The introduction of additional ferryboats during the Exposition will be easy for the people travelling to Panjim and vice versa.”
Currently, the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited operates one bus up to Goltim-Navelim, causing inconvenience to villagers of Narva and Malar, who are compelled to walk two-three kilometres to catch the bus.
“Divar does not have adequate facilities. People had agitated in the past for the construction of bridge. But many do not want it. But I appeal to the government to provide us with better transport facilities. There are three ferryboats operating from 8 am to 10 am, again from 5 to 7 pm and one is kept standby. I appeal to the government to operate them regularly for the convenience of islanders,” said D’Souza.
