Addressing the media, Goa Trade Unions President Ajitsingh Rane said there are 28 teachers who teach in eight vocational higher secondary schools for the past few years and they are paid on lecture basis. He added that the teachers are qualified and attend all the functions as the regular teachers do.
These teachers said their demand is that all of them be given a separate scale and they be recruited at least on contracts.
Beig Haseena, a teacher said, “Lecture basis teachers cannot avail of benefits like maternity leave and if they avail of this they can be replaced by another teacher.”
Another teacher Sharad Desai said they are not paid on government holidays as well as on long vacations like summer, Christmas, Diwali and Ganesh holidays thus making it difficult for them to survive.
