Govt HS (Ponda) lift Mortiz Trophy

Government High School, Ponda defeated Holy Cross High School, Siolim 7-0 in the U-17 10th edition of all-Goa one-day inter-school Brother Paulus Mortiz memorial football tournament at Duler, Mapusa organised by Anthonian’s Past Pupil’s Association.
In all, 16 teams participated.
In the semis Holy Cross High School, Siolim beat SFX High School, Siolim 4-1 while Government High School, Sadar-Ponda trounced St Britto’s High School, Mapusa 3-0. Following individual prizes were awarded: Best goalkeeper – Vikas Solanki of Government School, Ponda. Best player – Charles Cardozo of Government School, Ponda. Highest scorer – Alton D’Souza of Holy Cross High School and best disciplined team – St Anthony’s High School, Duler.
Fr Caetano Fernandes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Brother P.D. Mathew (superior of St Anthony’s Institute), Brother David (ex- manager), guest of honours Brother Joy M.P. (headmaster, St Anthony’s High School), Fr Pio Almeida (Rector, Seminary Niwas), Michael Carrasco (president-Anthonian’s Past Pupils Association), Jeromino D’Souza (vice-president) and Sharon Fernandes (general secretary).
