MARGAO: Owner of Jolly Travels, Anthony Babush Rodrigues on Monday said that no case was registered against him nor against his Goa-Mumbai-Goa bus in connection with the seizure of foreign currency from one of his bus by the Banda police on Saturday.
Anthony told the media that his driver has been released by a local court at Banda after representatives of the company dealing in foreign exchange submitted that the money amounting to Rs 25 lakh was handed over to the bus driver to be delivered to its representatives in Mumbai.
“Our bus was not involved in the illegal transportation of the foreign currency. The currency was handed over to our driver by the company dealing in foreign exchange. When the Banda police detained the bus and arrested the driver, I had made it clear to the police to punish the driver if he was guilty. But, as it turned out, the money was given to the driver by a registered company dealing in foreign exchange to be delivered in Mumbai”, he said.
Anthony said the Enforcement Directorate has taken over investigations into the foreign currency and has called the foreign exchange company to appear before the agency on October 7.
