Margao Dialogue discusses host of issues concerning town

MARGAO: The Margao Dialogue, hosted by the Shadow Council, played host to various issues of the town ranging from sewerage, garbage, traffic, women empowerment and failures of the Margao MLA and Margao Municipal Council.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave a patient hearing to the complaints of the people and offered answers to some of the questions.
Shadow council is an association of the defeated candidates of the recent Margao municipal elections. They have come together to raise the issues of the people which generally don’t get attention.
Kejriwal gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the people and has advised the Margao AAP team to put them in their unique exercise of people’s manifesto. Savio Coutinho, Radha Kavlekar, Laurel Abranches and others were present at the Dialogue.
Issues such as graveyard for Catholic and kabrastan for Muslims, bad sewage management, traffic and parking in the town, security and old age homes for the senior citizens were raised at the Dialogue for Margao.
Appreciating the concept of Shadow Council, Kejriwal said, “The amount of participation of people in bringing about change in Goa is amazing. As far as democracy is concerned, these experiments have to be appreciated and I feel this has to happen in other areas of the country.”
A Muslim from Margao, raising the issue of kabrastan for Margao said, “For the last 30 years the Margao MLA has cheated us for kabrastan and the plight is getting worse now.”
Responding to this grievance, Kejriwal said that graveyard is a must for Christians and Muslims. “The two years that I worked with Mother Teresa taught me that dignity of life and death is needed for all. If land is required, then, it should be given immediately,” he added.
Kejriwal criticised BJP National President Amit Shah for calling the AAP manifesto as ‘election jumla’ and claimed that the AAP Manifesto would come right from within the people.
Meanwhile, Savio Coutinho, the president of Shadow Council, has ruled out any effort on his part for getting AAP ticket for Margao.
