VASCO: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Goa region to clear all encroachments along NH17B from Varunapuri to Verna.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the much-awaited Varunapuri- Sada Missing Link project with elevated portion of this NH17 B, he said, “I want to make roads accident-free. I have come to understand that three youth lost their lives in a tragic accident that reported near Zuari gate next to MES College junction some days back. To stop accidents and save lives, we need to clear encroachments first and it will be my priority. Hence I am giving clear directions to you (NHAI) to ensure that without any fear all those encroachments even if it is by the defence establishments or by the individuals should be cleared within next three months”.
He said all junctions along NH-17B will be made signal free by constructing flyovers as proposed by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and for this, projects to the tune of Rs 300 crore have been proposed and the same will be cleared shortly.
“There are 3 RoBs proposed on this elevated portion of NH17 B project. The contractor was in trouble as the authorities did not pay him money for the work. I directed the NHAI authorities to sign a tripartite agreement to clear the contractor’s amount”, he said.
